The Pakistan Nursing Council has decided to close all illegal nursing schools and colleges across the country.
It has also decided to sort out the pending cases of registration and licence renewal of nurses on an urgent basis.
Briefing the media, Pakistan Nursing Council President Dr Shazia Sobia Soomro said that online registration of nurses will be ensured in the future. She said that action will be taken against nursing schools and colleges that did not meet the standard of the Pakistan Nursing Council.
Dr Shazia said that registration cards will be delivered to nurses at the home so that they did not have to travel to Islamabad for getting the same. She said that pending registration and renewal of nurses’ licences will be expedited.
The Pakistan Nursing Council president said that the previous government issued ordinances to get work done arbitrarily.
She said that the nursing board will be strengthened and a task has been set before the election. She said that there were too many complaints against the nursing council and those involved in illegality will be punished. The black sheep in the Pakistan Nursing Council will be eliminated, she said.
Pakistan Nursing Council Vice-President Faridullah Shah said that approval has been gotten for the registration of nursing colleges. He said that inspectors will decide the matter on the spot during the inspection.
On the election of parliamentarians as the president of the nursing council, Faridullah Shah said that the president has to be elected from among parliamentarians. He said that the election of a parliamentary secretary on the administrative post will help solve the problems being faced by the Pakistan Nursing Council.
Pakistan Nursing Council Registrar Fauzia Mushtaq said that several cases were pending because of the submission of incomplete documents by applicants.
