RAWALPINDI:

Four people were arrested for putting resistance during an anti-encroachment operation carried out in Rawalpindi.

A case was registered against them.

A heavy contingent of police took part in a 12-hour long anti-encroachment operation at business centers, bus terminals, main highways and residential areas and seized dozens of handcarts operating illegally.

The district administration has accelerated action against encroachments spread throughout the garrison city.

District administration officials have said that Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Noorul Amin Mengal has instructed the Assistant Commissioner to continue the operation until encroachments are completely eradicated from the city.

Due to excessive encroachment, traffic jams have become the norm on main highways, while even walking on the footpaths is becoming impossible.

On the instruction of the commissioner, a grand anti-encroachment operation has been conducted by the Assistant Commissioner City with the help of heavy police contingent and heavy machinery of Municipal Corporation at Pirwadhai bus stand, Mandi Morr, Bagh Sardaran, Hazara Colony and other areas.

Dozens of handcarts were seized and challans were issued to the owners.

Officials have said that heavy machinery would be used for demolishing permanent encroachments.
