ISLAMABAD:

Lt. General Faiz Hameed was appointed as Corps Commander Bahawalpur, his second posting in 10 months, an official handout issued by the military's media wing said on Monday.

Gen Faiz was appointed Corps Commander Peshawar in October 2021 after serving as Director General of the Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) for over two years.

As head of the Peshawar Corps he was spearheading Pakistani side in talks with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) brokered by the Afghan Taliban. It seems unclear whether he would now continue with that role after being posted out of Peshawar.

He would be replaced by Lt Gen Sardar Hassan Azhar as Corp Commander Peshawar. Lt Azhar was serving as the military secretary since 2020.

As per the press release of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) LG Gen Khalid Zia was appointed as the military secretary for Pakistan Army.

Last week, Lt General Asif Ghafoor, former DG ISPR, was appointed as Quetta Corps Commander.

He was appointed Commander Southern Command following the martyrdom of Lt General Sarfraz Ali in a helicopter crash in Lasbella.

Gen Sarfraz and five other Army officers were perished when the army helicopter crashed due to bad weather. Gen Sarfraz was returning from the flood-hit areas of Balochistan after supervision the relief activities.
