Rain-battered city waits for fourth spell of monsoon

Met Office forecasts more rains from Aug 6

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a rainfall with thunder in the city between August 6 to 9. Moderate to heavy rains are expected in different parts of the city during the fourth spell of monsoon.

Urban flooding may occur in various districts of rural Sindh, including Karachi due to the influence of the new system. The city witnessed light rain and drizzle on Tuesday. The highest rainfall of 3mm was recorded in Gulshan-e-Hadeed.

As per monsoon outlook issued by the Met Office, monsoon winds are expected to enter eastern Sindh from the night of August 4 to the morning of August 5. Monsoon winds are expected to be moderate.

There is a possibility of rains with thunderstorms in districts Tharparkar, Umarkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin and other areas of interior Sindh from August 5 to 9, while there is a possibility of rainfall with thunder in Karachi from August 6 to 9.

Moderate and heavy rains are expected in different parts of the city. Heavy rains may cause urban-flooding in urban areas of Sindh including Karachi. The weather in Karachi is expected to remain cloudy with light rain and drizzle till August 4.

Today, the city's weather remained pleasant due to low-level sea clouds and sustained sea breezes. As per Met department forecast, there is a possibility of light rain in the city during the next 72 hours.

A rainfall of 3mm was recorded in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, 2.8mm on University Road, 2.3mm in Old Airport, 2mm in Orangi Town, 2mm in Saddar, 1.2mm in Nazimabad, and 1mm in Saadi Town.
