Newly-appointed Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Faisal Shahkar vowed after taking charge of his office on Monday to make short and long-term plans and take timely measures to deal with the basic and emerging challenges of policing in an efficient manner.
Speaking to the media, he said positive reforms and policies of the former IGPs would be carried forward, while security and services would be provided to the citizens with renewed enthusiasm and determination.
Faisal Shahkar said law enforcement, crime control and prevention of abuse and violence against women and children were is priorities and a zero-tolerance policy would be adopted in this regard.
He said that along with the crime data, public perception was the main criterion for evaluating the performance of the police.
Shahkar said the response rate of the police in crime control was fundamental and the policing system would be developed on modern lines.
He said the trends of crimes had changed with time and modern technology would be effectively used to improve the protection of citizens as well as public service.
