Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) chief minister on Thursday approved a “revolutionary” health initiative after which consultants from across the country will be inducted to plug the gap of medical specialists in the region.
The residents of G-B had been suffering due to acute shortage of medical specialists while the regular terms and conditions of service for consultants in the remote areas were not attractive.
The specialists will be hired through third party on market salaries, which will be at par with medical institutions like SkMH, Indus hospital and others.
The terms of reference of these specialists will be as per global best practices and the remuneration will range from Rs400,000 to 700,000 based on their experience.
It is expected that the initiative would ensure availability of medical specialists in five major districts of the G-B and mitigate sufferings of the residents.
