CHAK JHUMRA:

A prisoner who had had six cases of robbery registered against him escaped from police custody at the gate of the sessions court where he had been taken for trial.

According to the police report, Constables Nawaz and Mohsin accompanied the accused, Umair Shehzad, to the court. When the constables accompanying the accused arrived at the gate of the sessions court, the accused somehow managed to unlock the handcuffs and escaped.

The constables chased Shehzad, but he simply outran them.

City Police Officer Syed Nasir Ali Rizvi took notice of the matter and issued orders to the SHOs of Millat Town and Madina Town police stations to apprehend the accused.

Officers from both the police stations raided Shahzad’s house to arrest him but the accused was not present there.

Police, nevertheless, took some of his close relatives into custody and shifted them to an unknown location.
