HYDERABAD:

The Senior Member Board of Revenue Baqaullah Unar said on Monday that the people should avail the facility of e-stamping for payment of stamp duty on immovable property.

The web portal estamps.gos.pk also provides the service of assessing the property valuation rate, he said talking to the journalists at Hyderabad Press Club.

Unar informed that more than 90 branches of the National Bank of Pakistan have started issuing e-stamps. He added that the provincial government has set the target of engaging 350 branches of the NBP for this service.

He said the online system is expected to make the process of obtaining stamps hassle free, besides it will also prevent fraud as complete information of the persons who require the stamps will have to be submitted online to get the stamps.

A person who wants the e-stamp is supposed to fill out details on the stamps department's web portal in order to obtain challan for payment in the bank. After paying the challan the bank will print the required affidavit. In the first phase the e-stamps of Rs500 and above are being issued through the online system. An official of the department, who requested anonymity, told The Express Tribune that they will launch the second phase in a year or two.

The e-stamps worth less than Rs500 are being issued under the old system of collecting papers from the head of the stamp department.
