KHANEWAL:

The district administration sprang into action Thursday night, arresting two persons and imposing Rs195,000 fine on several petrol pumps in Khanewal district after some petrol pumps stopped sale of petrol before enforcement of the new fares.

Sensing that the petrol pump owners might shorten sale hours before 12pm Wednesday-Thursday midnight to take undue advantage of the new petrol prices, the assistant commissioners visited different petrol pumps in Khanewal, Jahanian, Kabirwala and Mian Channu and ensured smooth operations of petrol pumps, says an official release issued in Khanewal on Friday.

During visits ordered by the Deputy Commissioner, Shahid Fareed, Assistant Commissioner Iqra Mustafa got a man arrested on stopping petrol sale and imposed a fine of Rs20,000 on him.

The assistant commissioner of Mian Channu also had a man arrested at a petrol pump and imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on him.

The assistant commissioner of Jahanian also imposed fines of Rs40,000 on two petrol pumps.

Overall a sum of Rs195,000 was imposed as penalty on petrol pumps on charges of hoarding.

Their operation continued till 12pm Wednesday-Thursday midnight when the new price became effective.

Meanwhile, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Revenue, Omar Iftikhar Shirazi, said the district administration had completed all precautionary measures to deal with possible urban flooding in the area.
