KARACHI:

The lawyers, protesting against the tension developed between judges, lawyers and court employees, called off their protest after the assurance by the chief justice of Sindh High Court that the issue would be resolved within 24 hours.

Before the meeting with the CJ, the lawyers registered their protest on the issue in the court premises, chanted slogans and tried to march towards the chamber of the CJ. However, the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) leaders refrained them from doing so.

According to PBC member, Abid Zubairi, the chief justice has also assured the protesting lawyers that an investigation would be carried out against the court staff for allegedly injuring the lawyers.

Meanwhile, Secretary Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA), Omar Soomro said that the lawyers have demanded removal of the sessions judge and registration of a case.

President of SHCBA, Shahab Sarki said, "We are confident that chief justice woul take action as per assurance."

Earlier, the SHCBA, while presenting a resolution on the tense situation of the city court, had demanded of the CJ to take notice of the situation. The resolution further said that police should be prevented from conducting raids, arresting lawyers and registering cases against them.

The CJ has been requested to play a role in bringing lawyers and judges to the negotiating table.
