Pushcart bazaars to launch today

Official says 150 DC counters will also be established in Rawalpindi district

Additional Deputy Commissioner General Captain (retd) Qasim Ijaz directed all the assistant commissioners to complete the establishment of 20 pushcart bazaars and 150 Deputy Commissioner (DC) counters in the Rawalpindi district by June 1 so that food items can be provided at government rates.

The official said that a uniform design should be available in all pushcart bazaars and DC counters, and official price lists should be displayed prominently. He added that seven out of 20 pushcart bazaars have been set up while 83 DC counters have been set up in megastores and cash and carries.

He said that space has been identified for the remaining pushcarts and DC counters, and their establishment would be implemented soon. In the area of Rawalpindi, pushcart bazaars have been set up in Haideri Chowk, Committee Chowk, Shahbaz Sharif Park, Jhanda Chichi and Chungi No 22.

Pushcarts have also been established in Taxila and Kotli Satyan tehsils. He said that pushcart bazaars would be set up on the roads in such a way that the flow of traffic and citizens would not be affected.

He said that plans have been made to set up five pushcart bazaars in the city area of Rawalpindi, three in Cantt and three pushcart bazaars in the Saddar area of Rawalpindi.

The official said that two pushcart bazaars are being set up in Taxila, Gujar Khan and Kahuta tehsils while one pushcart bazaar is being set up in Kallar Syedan, Murree and Kotli Satyan.

He said that 34 and 30 DC counters will be set up in Rawalpindi City and Cantt as per the target. Ten DC counters are being set up in Kahuta and Kallar Syedan, five in Murree and one in Kotli Satyan. He directed the Assistant Commissioners to set up all the pushcart bazaars and DC counters by June 1 and provide photographic evidence.
