PESHAWAR:

The University of Peshawar (UoP) has clarified that the appointments against the various teaching and non-teaching positions advertised in 2015, 2018, and 2019 were pending since long due to court cases and ban imposed by the government.

In a press statement issued in response to Peshawar University Teachers Association (PUTA) demands to hold syndicate meeting to consider the recommendations of the selection board, the UoP, made it clear that when the current Vice-Chancellor (VC) took charge in December 2020, he wanted to materialize the appointments, but could not do so first due to financial constraints and later due to the non-availability of the Selection Board members.

Meanwhile, the university received the minutes of a meeting between the secretary HED and the PUTA wherein it was emphasized that the pending selection board may be brought to the syndicate.

“A committee was constituted on the directives of the Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training to resolve the university employees’ grievances. The committee after detailed deliberations amongst other things also recommended holding the meeting of the selection boards and completing the pending appointment process at the earliest,” the statement says.

The VC honored the recommendations of the committee, and the meetings of the Selection Committee, Personal Grade Committee, TTS Committee, Finance and Planning Committee, Syndicate, and Selection Boards were convened during the holy month of Ramzan.

The Selection Board meetings were convened to consider the pending cases on 20 and 21 April 2022, however, it took more time and the meetings were continued on 26 and 27 April 2022.

The University Selection Board includes nominees of the chancellor, the chairman/nominee of the Public Service Commission, respective deans, and HoDs.

All the honorable members are very honest, experienced, and dedicated persons who took time from their busy schedules during the month of Ramzan and after due consideration have made recommendations on merit.
