High alert issued, emergency declared in Pindi hospitals

Leaves of govt employees cancelled in Rawalpindi division

RAWALPINDI:

Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Noorul Amin has issued a high alert for the Rawalpindi division in wake of the evolving political situation in the twin cities.

As part of the alert, leaves of all government employees in the Rawalpindi division have been cancelled and an indefinite emergency has been declared in all government hospitals.

Sources said that police, Rescue 1122, bomb disposal squad, doctors, hospital staff and civil defence volunteers have been issued directions to remain alert 24 hours.

Orders have been issued to all government employees present to remain in touch with their respective institutions and keep their mobile phones switched on 24 hours.

The sources said that high-ups have warned government officials and officers against switching off their mobile phones until the high alert is lifted.

Due to the evolving political situation in the twin cities, the district administration has started considering announcing holidays for all educational institutions situated near major roads and highways in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

The announcement in this regard is expected within the next 36 hours. Police personnel have also been called from Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock and nearby districts of Rawalpindi division for deployment at sensitive places.
