Say suspects left vehicle behind after it met accident

Police recovered a huge quantity of drugs worth millions of rupees from a vehicle that drug smugglers left behind after it met an accident near Brahma Bahtar Interchange on Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M-1) on Tuesday.

According to police officials, after the accident the Motorway police reached the site but the suspects had already escaped. A huge cache of drugs were found during a search of the vehicle, said police, adding that the drugs, concealed in the trunk, included 23 kilogrammes of opium, 21 kilogrammes of hashish and five kilogrammes of heroin.

The vehicle and the drugs have been handed over to the Hassan Abdal police for further investigation.

Meanwhile, a man who opened fire on a polio team member was arrested by Saddar police station on Tuesday. A case has also been registered against him.

Police said that Kamal Khan, a resident of Babarki, who was working in a polio campaign run by the health department, lodged a complaint at the police station.

Saddar police station took immediate action on the aforesaid complaint and started searching for the suspect. On Tuesday, police arrested him and registered a case against him.
