Abbottabad district being beautified for tourists

Administration, community involved in transforming potential tourist destination

A beautification project with an aim to revamp the Abbottabad district in the image of a picturesque holiday destination for both domestic and international tourists is underway.

Planting trees, clearing blocked drains, putting up signboards, chlorinating water tanks, repairing street lights, removing wall chalking, whitewashing public places, cleaning parks, offices and other public places and retrieving encroached land is in full swing.

Assistant Commissioner (AC) Abbottabad Muhammad Hassaan Ahsan told journalists that all line departments including Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) of Abbottabad, Havelian, Lora and Tanawal, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), local government and rural development, District Education offices, District Health Office and National Highway Authority (NHA) have been engaged in the campaign.

So far, he said, as many as 1,120 drains have been cleaned, with 690 of them taken care of by local government and rural development, 310 by Water and Sanitation Services Company (WSSC) Abbottabad, 25 by TMA Abbottabad, 60 by TMA Havelian, 20 by TMA Lora and 15 by TMA Lower Tanawal.

Similarly, 94 water tanks were chlorinated by PHED, DHO and TMAs.

The AC further said that construction debris had been removed from 14 places and 448 street lights were repaired. He added that 11 manholes were replaced, 100 illegal speed breakers were removed and 85 wall-chalkings were washed.
