For the first time in the history of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), a woman police officer has been posted as the assistant inspector general (AIG).

Ayesha Gul, who hails from Swabi, became the first woman in the provincial police force to achieve this honour.

The police officer, who is posted in Peshawar, has taken the charge of her new post. She said that as AIG Gender Equality, she would work towards the protection of the rights of women, transgender persons and children.

Earlier in January, Ayesha, who was then serving in the Islamabad Traffic Police, was honored for her performance. She was also promoted to the rank of superintendent of police.
