A total of 34 foreign-funded projects worth $3.65 billion are being implemented by the government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), revealed Economic Affairs Division (EAD) Secretary Mian Asad Hayauddin.
In a meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Omar Ayub Khan on Monday, the EAD secretary pointed out that the Asian Development Bank (ADB), European Union, World Bank, China, France, Germany, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the UK and the US provided assistance for those projects.
The meeting of the National Coordination Committee on Foreign-Funded Projects (NCC-FFP) was held to review the progress on foreign-funded projects in K-P and Balochistan.
Reviewing the projects, it was highlighted that due to the efforts of NCC-FFP and regular follow-ups, project implementation by the government of K-P “is now picking up pace”.
The meeting was apprised that the number of problematic projects in K-P had been reduced from six to three, according to a statement. “Similarly, the number of partially satisfactory projects has come down from 11 to 7.”
Regarding the ADB-funded “Access to Clean Energy Investment Programme”, it was informed that solar facilities had been installed in 5,946 schools out of 8,000 and the remaining installations would be completed by June 2022.
Moreover, the solar system installation in 53 health units has been completed, whereas “contracts for the remaining 134 health units have been awarded and work is under progress”.
About the micro-hydropower plants (MHPP), 287 such plants had been installed, whereas work on the remaining 411 plants was underway, it was learnt.
The committee reviewed progress on the “Pehur High Level Canal Extension Project” for which the ADB had committed $86.41 million.
“This project is aimed at developing a new irrigated area of over 8,727 hectares in Swabi and Nowshera districts of K-P, in which water resources for agricultural production are dependent on rainfall only,” the statement said.
