ISLAMABAD:

President Dr Arif Alvi approved on Tuesday the appointment of Kamran Hayat Miankhel, Muhammad Ejaz Khan and Muhammad Fahim Wali as the additional judges of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) for one year under Article 175 of the Constitution.

The names had been approved by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) last month, when former chief justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed was its head. They were nominated by the chief justice of the Peshawar High Court (PHC).

In the meeting, the JCP had also approved the elevation of three district and sessions judges of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the additional judges of the PHC, however, the Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment did not approve the JCP’s recommendation.

The parliamentary committee in its meeting on January 19 said that the appointment of Fazal Subhan, Shahid Khan, and Dr Khurshid Iqbal was not approved because it violated the seniority principle. The committee then sent the names back to the JCP for reconsideration.
