The forest department has sought permission and funds from the Punjab government to expand the Chinji National Park after preparing the Project Concept-1 (PC-1) of the park’s Phase 2 to be developed at the confluence of Chakwal District and Attock. The 15,000-acre Chinji National Park, located on Sargodha Road at a distance of 130km from the federal capital, was inaugurated in 2021. Its extension will cover another 12,000 acres in Phase 2 of the project.
A 100ft high tower will be built in the new park, allowing tourists to climb up and glimpse the entire area and the forest's natural scenery. The park will also be furnished with latest swings for children, tuck shops, eateries serving local cuisine, a food street, a separate park area for women, a jogging track, a dozen washrooms, and a drinking water filtration plant. Comfortable benches, shaded seating points and huts will also be set up for tourist families in all areas of the national park.
A lake and a mini pond to breed aquatic birds, fish, and aquatic life is also part of the project. Closed-circuit cameras will be installed at all important points along with deployment of guards and a large parking area will be established. If started timely, Phase 2 of the national park is expected to be completed by June 30
