Celebratory fire claims child's life

The victim was standing on her roof watching aerial firing in wedding procession when one of the bullets hit her

KARACHI:

A girl lost her life after allegedly being struck in the head by a stray bullet in Orangi Town.

The victim, Madiha Afzal Rehman, 11, was standing on her roof watching aerial firing in a wedding procession when one of the bullets hit her. West SSP Sohai Aziz said that the firing was taking place at a wedding ceremony while the bullet hit Madiha on the head from the other side. It is suspected that the bullet was fired from a close range.

In this regard, Peerabad police is talking to the family of the victim to get the legal formalities completed.

Rescue officials said that the family members kept the body of the deceased in cold storage without any legal action. While talking to media, the uncle of the victim said that there was a wedding ceremony in the neighbourhood.

Madiha was standing on the roof when a bullet coming from an unknown direction hit her on the head. Separately, a boy was shot and injured near Patel Society, Gabol Goth in Gulshan-e-Maymar area.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention. In this regard, Gulshan-e-Maymar police said that the incident was reported to have been caused by a bullet coming from an unknown direction. The boy has been identified as Sujawal son of Akbar, 16. Police were investigating the incident further.
