KARACHI:

Cars stolen from Karachi were allegedly being used by rent-a-car companies in the Dera Bugti area of Balochistan.

Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) SSP Bashir Brohi has sent a letter to Sindh IGP Mushtaq Mehar on the revelation that luxury vehicles worth millions of rupees snatched from the city were found running in rent-a-car companies based in Dera Bugti, Balochistan. The letter requested for provision of details of the vehicles rented to the said companies during the last five years.

The letter written by the AVLC SPP in November last year has come to light in which it was stated that Manzoor Bafu, an alleged terrorist arrested by the police in Shahra-e-Noor Jahan, had revealed during interrogation that he along with his accomplices snatched luxury vehicles from the city and took them to Dera Bugti and sold them to different buyers.

After the sale of the vehicles, the suspects would change the chassis number and color of such vehicles and would then rent them out by making forged documents.

The letter requested Sindh IGP that the offices of both the companies are located in Islamabad, therefore, with the help of the relevant authorities, the record of all the vehicles they rented out during this period should be sought. Police sources said that the relevant authorities have been informed about this in a letter by the police and details are also being sought from the said companies.

Sources said that apart from specific buyers of new and luxury vehicles snatched or stolen from Karachi in Balochistan, Dera Bugti, some evidence of involvement of influential people has also been found while the rent of the rented vehicles ranges from Rs150,000 to Rs250,000 per month.
