Six killed, 35 injured in Bahawalpur bus accident

Death toll could rise as some of the injured are in critical condition

At least six people were killed and 35 injured in a bus accident in Bahawalpur on Monday.

The death toll could rise as some of the injured were said to be in critical condition. The accident took place on a highway and the bus driver was also among those killed.

In July 2021, at least five passengers including two women were killed and another 25 sustained serious injuries when a Rawalpindi-bound bus turned turtle near Jaman Shah due to over-speeding.

On November 27 last year, at least 15 people died while 1,050 were injured in 1,010 Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) in all 37 districts of Punjab. Out of 1,010, 606 people were seriously injured who were shifted to different hospitals while 444 people who had sustained minor injuries were treated at the scene of the accidents.

The majority of the accidents had involved motorcycles. Further, the analysis showed that 421 drivers, 46 underage drivers, 158 pedestrians, and 486 passengers were among the victims of these road traffic crashes.

The statistics showed that 253 RTCs were reported in Lahore which affected 250 persons placing the provincial capital at the top of the list followed by Faisalabad with 89 victims and Multan with 74 RTCs and 76 victims.

The details showed that 1065 victims were affected by road traffic crashes including 871 males and 194 females, while the age group of the victims had showed that 176 were under 18 years of age, 550 were between 18 and 40 years of age and the rest of the 339 victims were reported to be above 40 years of age.

In October last year at least 12 people were killed while 1,121 suffered injuries in 1,088 Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) in all 36 districts of Punjab. In these RTCs, 643 people were seriously injured who were shifted to different hospitals while 478 mildly injured victims were treated at the incident site by Rescue 1122 medical teams.

The majority of accidents, around 69 per cent, involved motorcycles. Furthermore, the analysis showed that 494 drivers, 42 underage drivers, 120 pedestrians, and 519 passengers were among the victims of these road traffic crashes.

The statistics showed that 272 RTCs were reported in Lahore which affected 252 persons, placing the provincial capital at the top of the list followed by 82 accidents in Multan with 93 victims and Faisalabad with 78 RTCs and 85 victims.

The details further revealed that 1,133 victims were affected by road traffic crashes including 885 males and 248 females.
