Aiwan-e-Sadr to open its doors to general public on Saturday

ISLAMABAD:

The Aiwan-e-Sadr will open its doors to general public on Saturday January 1, 2022, providing them a rare opportunity to show the magnificent building as well as its beautiful green lawns.

The presidency will remain open for the masses from 1pm to 4pm on January 1, said a statement issued by the office of the president on Friday.

The building was also opened to the public a few times in the past, in pursuance of the government’s commitment to open all state buildings to the general public which otherwise used to be considered a “no-go area”.

People, desiring to visit the Aiwan-e-Sadr, have been asked to ensure carrying their Covid-19 vaccination certificates and wear a face mask as a pre-requisite for entry.

No visitor would be allowed to carry any electronic device like a mobile phone or camera.

The home to all-powerful presidents including Ghulam Ishaq Khan, General Pervez Musharraf and Asif Ali Zardari, the building has seen history being made. The white squarish building represents a modern step pyramid architectural style and is flanked by the Prime Minister House on one side and the Parliament building on the other.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had vowed in his public addresses to open all state buildings so that people can see lifestyle of their leaders. The people will also be able to visit the grand halls, where oath-taking ceremonies of several heads of governments and states, ministers have taken place.

The presidency gates were also open for public in December 2018. The Aiwan-e-Sadr remained opened for public from 9am to 4pm.
