No VIP protocol for Jam Owais: Minhas

Says he is confined in normal lockup, investigation is going on merit

Karachi Police Chief Imran Yaqub Minhas has said that MPA Jam Owais is not being provided VIP protocol and there is no pressure on the police team investigating the Nazim Jokhio murder case as it will be investigated on merits.

Talking to media at the inauguration of new office of the Saddar Traffic Section adjoining the Saddar Police Station on Tuesday, Minhas said that FIR of Nazim Jokhio murder has been lodged as per the intention of the victim's family and the investigation into the murder is being carried out in a completely professional manner. "Jam Owais is in police custody and confined in the normal lockup."

The court has also taken notice of why the police did not handcuff Jam Owais during his appearance," he said and added that the delinquent police officer has been reprimanded and departmental action is also being taken against him.

The police chief said that street crime is rampant in the city but if the record of last two months is examined the trend is downward and the main reason for this is busting and apprehending of various gangs.

He further said that most of the snatched mobile phones end up in the used phones market. The easily sold and purchased second-hand mobile phones and their parts should be brought into the legal framework so that the parts of the stolen mobile phones would not be sold after opening them.
