Govt mulls getting Tarin elected as senator

ISLAMABAD:

The government has decided to get Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin elected as a senator from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), sources said on Wednesday.

They added that the development came after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s Senator Ayub Afridi resigned as a senator. It is expected that Afridi would be appointed premier’s aide on state and frontier regions (SAFRON).

Afridi on Wednesday submitted his resignation to the Senate Chairman Office.

Sources said the government has decided to get Tarin elected as a senator from K-P on the seat that fell vacant after the resignation of Afridi.

This past week, Tarin, formerly the finance minister, was appointed as adviser to the prime minister on finance and revenue.

“The president, on the advice of the prime minister, has been pleased to appoint, with immediate effect, Shaukat Fayyaz Ahmed Tarin as Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue, with the status of federal minister,” read the notification, issued by the Cabinet Division.
