ECP members, Sanjrani security withdrawn

Electoral body’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab members are vacant for the last three months

ISLAMABAD:

The federal government on Wednesday withdrew the security from the duty of Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani and the members of the Election Commission of Pakistan, prompting the latter to submit their reservations to the interior ministry.

According to sources, the federal government has withdrawn the security from the duty of Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani and now the latter is being guarded by two policemen. Moreover, they added the security given to ECP members of Sindh and Balochistan has also been withdrawn.

Reacting to the development, the Senate Secretariat and the ECP have approached the interior ministry. They have shared their reservations related to security with the ministry.

Sources said that the ministry has assured the secretariat and the country’s top electoral body of raising the issue with Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid.

It is pertinent to mention that the posts for ECP members Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab are vacant for the last three months.
