A rainbow was sighted on Friday as the sun shone down on Karachi, peeking through cloudy skies and scattered showers, reported in different parts of the metropolis.
The current weather system is likely to dump more rain today (Saturday), predicted the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) in its latest advisory.
A low pressure of monsoon winds is present in Rajasthan and India, stated the PMD, under which the current spell of rainfall is expected to continue. The system is moving towards eastern Sindh so torrential rains are expected in Tharparkar, Badin, Thatta, Umerkot, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Jamshoro, Khairpur, and Hyderabad districts from September 16 to 18. There may be mild to moderate showers in the metropolis as the system moves east, the forecast stated. It added that the sixth monsoon spell this year will enter Sindh from Central India and the three-month spell will end by September 30.
According to the PMD, between Thursday and Friday the highest amount of rainfall was recorded in Surjani Town at 70mm, followed by Quaidabad at 20.5mm and Saadi Town at 16.6mm. In the same duration around 10mm of rain was recorded in the vicinity of University Road, 8.3mm in North Karachi, 8.1mm in Gulshan-e-Maymar, 6mm in Keamari, 5.8mm in Orangi Town, 5mm in PAF Base Faisal, 4.8mm near the Jinnah International Airport, around 3mm each in Gulshan-e-Hadeed and Old Airport areas, 1.2mm in Nazimabad, and 1.2mm of rain was recorded in Defence Housing Authority Phase-I.
