Pakistan's independence commemorated at New Delhi High Commission

Officers and staff of the High Commission along with their families were present on the occasion

The High Commission for Pakistan in New Delhi on Saturday commemorated the 75th Independence Day with traditional zeal and fervour.

Charge d’ Affaires Aftab Hassan Khan raised the country's flag to the tune of the national anthem at an elegant flag-hoisting ceremony held at the Chancery’s Lawns in the Indian capital.

Officers and staff of the mission along with their families were present on the occasion.

Messages of President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan were read out to the audience by Counsellors Political, Jawad Ali and Saeed Ali, respectively.

The Charge d’ Affaires in his remarks paid glowing tribute to the founding fathers of Pakistan who had led a peaceful democratic struggle for the creation of a separate homeland for the Muslims of the Indian Subcontinent.

Remembering unparalleled sacrifices rendered by the forefathers in the creation of Pakistan, he said, the day of August 14, 1947, has the utmost significance for the people of Pakistan, as on this daydream of an independent and sovereign state was turned into reality.

The Charge d’ Affaires also lauded the dynamic role of youth, women, minorities, robust polity, national institutions, vibrant media, civil society, civil and valiant armed forces of Pakistan for their immense contributions towards the progress and prosperity of the country.

“Our efforts are geared towards peace, stability, socio-economic connectivity and uplift of the people of Pakistan and the region,” Charge d’ Affaires Hassan said.

He further underscored that Pakistan sought peaceful and mutually beneficial relations with all its neighbours including India based on mutual respect and peaceful resolution of all outstanding issues.

“For durable peace and stability in South Asia, it is imperative to resolve the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with the UN resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people,” he stressed.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, a special cake was cut by Hassan along with his spouse in connection with Independence Day celebrations.
