Ex-MNA Jamshed Dasti's brother gunned down in Muzaffargarh

One person also sustains injuries in shooting incident, according to Express News

Former MNA Jamshed Dasti’s brother was shot dead in Punjab’s Muzaffargarh district on Sunday, Express News reported.

One person also sustained injuries while the veteran politician’s elder brother, Mushtaq Dasti, was killed in the shooting incident, accorfing to officials.

Police said the incident took place when a Panchayat (village council) session was being held to resolve a land dispute between two groups in a small village of Muzaffargarh, where Mushtaq was also present.

One of the groups in a fit of rage opened fire during the Panchayat meeting, leaving the ex-lawmaker’s brother dead on the spot, a police official told the media.

Following the incident, the police cordoned off the area and shifted the victim’s body to district headquarters hospital (DHQ) for autopsy.

In 2017, Punjab police arrested Mushtaq and two others on account of theft and smuggling of timber from Muzaffargarh district.

Mushtaq and his two accomplices were allegedly cutting off trees when a forest guard informed the Civil Lines police, who immediately arrived at the scene and caught the suspects red-handed.
