Third cop slain in last five days

Unidentified miscreants on Monday martyred a police head constable in Attal area of district Dera Ismail Khan while performing security duty with anti-polio vaccination teams.

Such an incident indicates that police is on the hit list of miscreants as this is the third episode in Khyber-Pakhtunkwa where a policeman was mortally shot. Over the last five days, two policemen were slain by unidentified persons in the province.

The head constable identified as Dilawar received multiple bullet injuries and succumbed to the wounds on the spot. He was posted at Kulachi police station.

Soon after the incident a heavy contingent of police along with DPO Najmul Hasnain reached the site. The police team cordoned off the area and arrested five suspects in a search operation.

Later, the funeral prayer of the martyred constable was offered at police line DI Khan with guard of honour that was attended by a large number of police officers and officials. A police contingent presented salute to the martyr and sent the body to his native town for burial.

Earlier on Sunday, a policeman was killed in a shooting incident in the Daudzai area of K-P. According to preliminary details, Frontier Reserve Police (FRP) constable Asif was going home on a motorbike after completing his duty when an unidentified assailant opened fire at the Daudzai police station, killing him on the spot.

On Friday, a policeman was killed and three passersby suffered injuries in a hand grenade attack at a Rapid Response Force vehicle in Karkhano Market on the outskirts of Peshawar.
