NAB claims Roshan Kanasro caused loss of Rs48.5 million to national exchequer

KARACHI:

An accountability court recorded the statement of a witness in a reference against corruption in the Culture and Tourism Department of Sindh.

Jail authorities presented the main suspect, former Sindh Tourism Development Corporation (STDC) minister Roshan Kanasro, while another co-accused and Rab Nawaz Jamali also appeared before the court to record statements.

The statement from the witness was cross-examined by the lawyers. According to NAB, the former tourism minister was assigned the task of promoting culture in Sindh, but did not carry out any related work. The bureau alleged that he caused a loss of more than Rs48.5 million to the national exchequer. The court adjourned the hearing till August 3.

An accountability court has given time to NAB to present a report regarding absconding suspects booked in a reference for embezzling over Rs670 million in the procurement of medicines for KVSS Hospital. NAB requested the court respite to submit a report on the fugitives.

The court granted the petition and adjourned the hearing. Earlier, the court had ordered the confiscation of the property of the absconding suspects.
