Drug peddlers are threat to national security, enemies of humanity: COAS

Drug money is used in terrorism and it is important that drug dealers are dealt with iron hands, says Gen Qamar

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Tuesday visited Anti-Narcotics Force headquarters, where he was given a detailed briefing about ANF’s contributions for controlling drug-trafficking in Pakistan, military said.

While interacting with the officers and staff, the army chief said that drug peddlers and those involved in its production are a threat to national security and relentless enemies of humanity, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

“Drug money is being used for promotion of terrorism and therefore, it is important that drug dealers are dealt with iron hands,” he was quoted by the military’s media wing as saying.

Gen Qamar also lauded the efforts of ANF in controlling drug-trafficking in Pakistan.

Earlier on arrival, the COAS was received by Director General ANF Major General Muhammad Arif Malik.

ANF, earlier this month, foiled an attempt smuggle a huge quantity of sleeping pills to Saudi Arabia.

The regional directorate of the force on July 16 intercepted two container at Pakistan International Container Terminal, Karachi and recovered 5,460 Azolam (Alparazolam) tablets (weighing 1.5kg), more than 56,500 Xanax tablets (weighing 134kg), 264,000 Valium Diazepam tablets (weighing 78kg) and 83,760 Pinix (Alparozlam tablets (weighing 26.5kg).

The said containers were booked by Exports Grand Arab Star, Karachi for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Exporter of said shipment Mairajud Din was arrested, ANF said.

Regional Directorate Karachi intercepted a parcel from Havi Express Courier Company Pvt Ltd, Karachi and recovered 1.5kg of heroin.

The ANF Hyderabad Police Station team intercepted a car near Giddu Chowk Hyderabad and recovered 33kg of hashish. Two accused Faiz Muhammad and Abdul Rasheed both residents of Shikarpur were arrested.
