LAHORE:

Three members of a family lost their lives while trying to escape a deadly electric shock on the roof of their house located near Ravi Road on Monday.

A Rescue 1122 spokesperson told The Express Tribune that an eight-year-old boy, 10-year-old girl and their father were electrocuted to death in the incident.

A family living near Timber Market had put out the clothes to dry on the rooftop in sunshine. Nearby, high tension electric wires providing electricity to the neighbourhood were suspended in the air.

The sad event unfolded when a young boy identified as Gohar Ali went upstairs to take off the drying clothes. He used an iron rod to take off the clothes.

Sources said due to the electromagnetic pull of the high tension electric wires, the iron caught the current and gave the child a high powered electric shock.

Fazed by it, the child cried for help. His sister Faiza, only two years older than him, ran to his rescue acting as a mother figure. She grabbed him from the back in order to pull him away and instantly got pulled by the current, unable to move and in pain she too cried for help.

The family revealed that after hearing the screams of the children, their father Asif Ali ran to save them and as a consequence, he too, became a victim of electric shock.

In hopes of saving lives, the family called rescue officials and police on the spot.

A neighbour said, “The entire neighbourhood is mourning the loss of three precious lives taken away in a span of few moments.”

Police officials reached the location and took forensic evidence from the scene of accident and recorded statements of eyewitnesses to rule out foul play.

After completing legal formalities, the police handed over the bodies of the victims to the heirs for burial.
