President Dr Arif Alvi directed the relevant authorities on Saturday to devise a comprehensive master plan for the renovation and expansion of the National Museum of Pakistan, including the setting up of a digitisation centre for the preservation of historical documents and artifacts.
The president issued the directives while chairing a follow-up meeting on the National Museum and Awan-e-Nawaderat-e-Quaid-e-Azam (ANQA) at the Governor House.
He also instructed to constitute an advisory committee for devising the master plan.
"Keeping in view the importance of rare artifacts, old historical documents and the database of artifacts, a comprehensive master plan should be devised for the modification of the National Museum," the president said, adding that the plan should include a laboratory for the preservation of old documents, a digitisation centre for 20,000 manuscripts and facilities for visitors."
The president stressed the need for adequate lighting of showcases at ANQA.
"For preservation purposes, 3D animated and humidity-controlled showcases should be affixed," he elaborated.
Dr Alvi also stressed the need for attracting researchers, scholars and visitors and sought a plan to widen ANQA's space, in order to facilitate the free movement of visitors inside the museum.
