After a successful dialogue between the federal government and the proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), the police deployed at important spots across Punjab were directed to move as special duties were called off, a spokesperson said on Wednesday.
The orders were issued by Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Inam Ghani after normalisation of the law and order situation. Sources told The Express Tribune that the police personnel were deployed across the province for over a week after the arrest of TLP Chief Saad Rizvi from Lahore, which had sparked protests in different parts of the country.
During the clashes, two policemen were killed while more than 600 sustained injuries. Punjab IG had deployed heavy contingents of police in 36 districts to ensure the safety and protection of lives and properties of people. However, IG has now ordered all police personnel to report back to their respective headquarters and police stations.
Ghani also commended the policemen who served on the frontline amid a tense atmosphere during the past week. The personnel have been instructed to resume their regular duties as special duties have been suspended.
