HYDRABAD:

A man, his son and grandson, who were on a motorcycle, were electrocuted by an 11,000 KV transmission wire of the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) on Sunday. The incident took place in Tando Adam on Khandu road, Sanghar district, near the assistant commissioner's residence.

The deceased have been identified as 53-year-old Abdul Hakeem Chutto, who was an employee of Government Girls Degree College, his son, 30-year-old Ghulam Qadir Chutto, and grandson, 10-year-old Javed Chutto. They were residents of Abdul Hakeem Chutto village.

The bodies were shifted to the taluka hospital for postmortem and later handed over to the heirs for the burial.

Muhammad Sharif Chutto, a family member, later got an FIR registered at Tando Adam Police Station, nominating HESCO chief engineer Aziz Bhutto, HESCO sub-divisional officer (SDO) Ghayasuddin Shaikh and line superintendent Imam Bux Mashori under Sections 322 (murder without intention) and 427 mischief causing damage to the amount of Rs50) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The Sanghar Police arrested Shaikh and Mashori, but Bhutto escaped the arrest.

The company's spokesperson said that according to an office order issued on Monday, SDO Shaikh has been put under suspension and directed to report to the office of the HESCO operations general manager Abdul Ahad in Hyderabad.

He added that an inquiry was being conducted into the incident and a report would be submitted to the operations general manager within a day.

Local traders and political representatives have complained to the media that despite their repeated complaints about HESCO's fragile transmission system, no steps have been taken to improve the transmission.
