LAHORE:

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar has accepted the demand of public representatives and the local population of districts Sheikhupura, Kasur and Nankana Sahib by limiting the scope of Lahore Development Authority (LDA) for efficient development.

Sarwar, on Tuesday, amended the Lahore Development Authority Act 1975 by issuing an ordinance after which districts Sheikhupura, Kasur and Nankana Sahib had been stripped from the LDA. Acknowledging the demands of provincial ministers, assembly members and the public, the governor limited the powers of the authority to Lahore. He also issued another ordinance for the establishment of commercial courts in five districts of Punjab, including Lahore.

He highlighted if the defendant does not appear in the commercial courts, the case will be decided on two dates.

As per the new ordinance, commercial cases pending in other courts will now be transferred to new commercial courts.

These new courts will decide pending cases from other courts within 180 days. Constituency boundaries will also be fixed for all commercial courts. Speaking on the occasion, Sarwar said people, ministers and members of the assembly of these three districts were constantly demanding that they be removed from the confines of the LDA.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government is making decisions according to the aspirations of the people and providing relief to the people in every sector is the top priority of the government.

He highlighted that establishment of commercial courts would restore investors’ confidence in the government and legal system. Providing timely justice to the business community is the top priority of the government.
