Hot, dry weather to persist in city: PMD

Mercury is expected to rise from 38 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius

As the heat spell in Karachi continues to persist, the temperature climbed past 41 degrees Celsius on Sunday. The maximum temperature recorded on the day was 41.5 degrees Celsius - the second-highest recorded thus far during the ongoing spell of hot weather.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the city will experience hot and dry weather today (Monday) as well.

The PMD, in a forecast issued on Sunday, attributed the rise in the temperature on the day to the suspension of sea breeze and Northeastern winds visiting the city. Hot winds continued to gust through the metropolis.

However, the restoration of Southwestern winds, blowing from the sea at 18 kilometres per hour, in the evening provided Karachiites some respite from heat.

According to an advisory issued by the PMD’s early warning centre, the hot and dry spell of weather will continue today (Monday) and the temperature is expected to drop significantly tomorrow (Tuesday).

Mercury is expected to rise to 38 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius today, the PMD has forecast.
