Minor dies after falling from roof

Victim was trying to catch kite when he slipped and fell in backyard of his house

DIJKOT:

A minor was killed after he fell from the roof of his house while catching a kite in Dijkot on Friday.

Police said five-year-old Sultan Waseem, a first grade student and a resident of Chak No 253, fell into the yard of his house while catching a kite. He was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Upon receiving the information, Dijkot police reached the spot, took the body of the deceased student into their custody and handed it over to his family after taking necessary action.

A large number of locals in the village gathered on the spot as soon as the news of the death of the minor spread in the locality. They protested against the non-action by the police against the kite-flyers and demanded action be taken against the kite-flyers as well as police. Sources added that to cover the exact details of the incident, the police team allegedly asked the victim's father to avoid mentioning anything related to the kite in his written statement.

Police reportedly suggested to the complainant that he simply write that the minor had fallen from the roof and died. According to Dijkot SHO Sub Inspector Omar Sarfraz Warraich, the minor had fallen from the roof of the house and died. “There is no such matter regarding kite flying in this roof accident.” Meanwhile, in the same village, another incident took place where another minor fell from the roof of his house in the yard while flying a kite and sustained injuries. Reportedly, eight-year-old Zaigham was flying a kite despite the ban in the city.

After he fell from the roof, he was shifted to Civil Hospital. On receiving information, a police team reached the spot. The locals gathered in the area and chanted slogans against the police for their negligence in eradicating the kite flying practice in Dijkot. They demanded senior police officers to take action against the responsible police officers.
