ISLAMABAD:

Karachi Company police arrested two suspects with a huge supply of liquor they claimed was meant for a foreign mission. The permit the presented turned out to be forged and the embassy officials said they have no knowledge about the consignment, officials of the Karachi Company police station told The Express Tribune.

According to sources, police had arrested four people, but made a deal with the smugglers. They kept half of the seized liquor and showed arrest of only the drivers. The Karachi Company police rejected the claim. They said that two suspects were arrested driving a SUV and a passenger van in the Sector G-8 area. Police seized 45 cartons of imported liquor from the two vehicles.

Islamabad IGP Qazi Jamilur Rehman has ordered a probe into the matter and summoned a fact-based report.

Saddar Zone SP Hamza Humayun confirmed that liquor smugglers were booked on a tip-off from Sector G-8. He also confirmed that the suspects were smuggling liquor bottles on the fake permit of an embassy. SP Humayun said he has no knowledge of the alleged release of two other suspects or wrong declaration of the quantity of the seized liquor.
