KARACHI:

Four young men were killed as a car overturned on University Road, near Sheikh Zayed Islamic Centre late on Sunday night.

According to an eyewitness, the car rammed into the pillar of a pedestrian bridge before overturning in what appeared to him an attempt by the driver to avoid hitting a motorcyclist. He said that the car's engine, seats and occupants' bodies were thrown out of the destroyed vehicle because of ther impact. As a result, the occupants identified as Muhammad Taimoor, 20, Rohan Iftikhar, 20, Asadullah, 20, and Moiz, 21, died on the spot.

The ill-fated car was owned by Moiz's father while the police found the identity card of his brother, Rameez, from Moiz's pocket who was driving. The bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Moiz's family was the first to arrive at the hospital first after they received news of the accident from television. It was they who identified all the bodies. It was Rameez who informed the families of the other deceased about the fatal accident. According to the bereaved families, the accident took place around 1.15 am.

The families said the deceased had become a close friend at a coaching centre and would often visit each other's houses. They added that the four friends would dine out every week and had left their houses for the same reason on Sunday night.

Iftikhar and Asadullah were the residents of Gulshan-e-Iqbal block 13-D2, Taimoor lived near Moti Mahal in Gulshan-e-Iqbal block 2, while Moiz was a resident of North Nazimabad block A.

The police handed over the bodies to the families after the completion of formalities.
