UET students pledge solidarity with Kashmiris

Contests held to highlight plight of people through creative expression

The Literary, Dramatics and Debating societies of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore organised an event on Friday titled ‘Sada-e-Kashmir (Voice of Kashmir)’ to express solidarity with Kashmiris suffering at the hands of Indian military in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The event was attended by a large number of UET students while observing Covid-19 precautionary measures.

Sada-e-Kashmir was comprised of various modules including English and Urdu poetry, essay writing and declamation contests.

On the occasion, a Kashmiri student sang a song to the audience on the plight of the IIOJK populace while a stage drama was also presented before the audience titled ‘Curfew’.

UET Vice Chancellor Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar was invited as the chief guest of the event, whereas Director Student Affairs Dr Asif Ali Qaiser, Dr Shumaila Shahzadi, Zainul Haq and Public Relations Officer Shahida Nazir also attended it.

Talal Hassan secured the first position in English Poem category while Kainat Habib won the first position in Urdu poetry.

Meanwhile, Zoha Mustafa and Zainab Rafaqat won the English and Urdu declama- tion contests, and Eleeza Tahoor and Noor Fatima topped the English and Urdu essay writing competitions, respectively. The vice chancel- lor distributed cash prizes and shields among winners and organizers of the event.
