Speakers stress need to enhance inmates’ skills, behaviour

UNDP has partnered with the SPARC to train around 50 persons

In order to bring back prisoners - a marginalised section of societyinto the mainstream, it is important to empower them by enhancing their skills and working on improving their behavior, said Sindh chief minister aide Syed Riaz Hussain Shah on Thursday. He was speaking at a session organised by the Society for the Protection of the Rights and Child (SPARC) to train probation and parole staff and other government officials on providing support to young persons in prisons and under probation in Sindh. Elaborating further on his views, Hussain said the idea was to increase earning opportunities and chances of earning livelihoods in a decent and respectful manner for prisoners after their release.

Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) managing director Abdul Kabir Kazi assured that the Sindh government was committed to uplifting and empowering the youth. Also speaking on the occasion, United Nations Development Programme private sector partnerships specialist Moin Zaidi said the “UNDP has partnered with the SPARC to train around 50 persons, who are either in the prisons or on a probation period, on various vocational and technical skills.”
