Sindh AIG Ghulam Nabi Memon constituted a special investigation team on Thursday to probe the murder of Zain Effendi, descendant of the Sindh Madrassahtul Islam University’s founder Hassanally Effendi, a day prior. A case was also lodged against unidentified suspects on the complaint of the deceased’s wife.

Senior officials of the Karachi Police, the Counter Terrorism Department and other intelligence agencies also reportedly visited the deceased’s residence.

During his visit, Memon, responded to some of the media’s queries but maintained that nothing could be said with certainty till the investigation is completely.

When asked whether the case appears to one of personal enmity or there is involvement of the notorious white Corolla gang, Memon maintained that as of now, it would be premature to state which gang is involved.

The FIR lodged on the complaint of Zain’s wife states that four armed men barged into their room around 4.20am. They took jewelry as well as two mobile phones of her late husband, but when they attempted to snatch his purse, Zain resisted as it contained some important papers, according to the complainant. The perpetrators opened fire at him and left right after, the FIR states, adding that Zain died on the spot.
