Punjab health department urges citizens to follow SOPs for protection against pandemic

Coronavirus took away as many as 206 lives in Punjab since the onset of December, official data available on the government website reveals.

The second covid-19 wave infected a whopping 5,226 persons in the province during the same duration; resulting in an astounding average of 653 new patients per day in the first week of the ongoing month.

According to the spokesperson for the Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (P&SHD), the number of coronavirus cases in the province tipped at 124,804 while the total number of deaths in the province were recorded as 3,242.

A slight reprieve was noticed on Wednesday when a slightly lower number than the average, 613, new coronavirus cases were reported across Punjab.

“24 people succumbed to the virus on December 8,” the P&SHD spokesperson said, warning the public against skipping safety protocols to avoid the deadly contagion.

The department confirmed 225 new pandemic cases in Lahore, followed by 86 in Rawalpindi, 44 in Rahim Yar Khan, 38 in Faisalabad, 30 in Sargodha, 29 in Multan, 21 in Bhakkar, 20 in Bahawalpur, 17 in Muzaffargarh, 13 each in Dera Ghazi Khan and Toba Tek Singh. Official statistics assert that 111,720 individuals have recovered from the virus in Punjab since the outbreak, which demonstrates a recovery percentage of 89.5%.
