RAWALPINDI:

An employee of a security agency was killed in Rawalpindi on Wednesday after he was shot by some men who tried to rob him.

Farooq Khan, the brother of the victim - Tazeem Khan, told the police that he, Tazeem and their cousin, Khalid, were going home on a motorbike in the Tahili Mori area.

They stopped at an automated teller machine (ATM) in Dheri Hassanabad bazaar where Tazeem went inside to withdraw some cash. As he entered the booth, an unidentified man in a black jacket followed him in.

Farooq said that he then saw his brother scuffle with a man inside the ATM booth. He rushed in and tried to pull the unidentified man off his brother. The robber allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Tazeem and fled. Tazeem suffered three bullet injuries.

He was rushed to a hospital in a Rescue 1122 ambulance but he succumbed to his wounds.

Later, the deceased’s body was shifted to the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital for an autopsy. After completing all legal formalities, the body was handed over to his family for burial.

Police said that they are collecting forensic evidence from the site besides obtaining footage from the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed inside and around the ATM. However, officials said that they are still probing the incident and have yet to make an arrest.

They added that the victim hailed from the Bagh district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and that his body has been sent to his native village for a funeral.
