KARACHI:

The Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) has expressed serious concerns over reports of abolishment of 25% quota allotted for the local newspapers. The CPNE maintained that local and small newspapers, which served as nurseries, if had to face financial cuts, will not only render the journalists and media employees unemployed but will also affect the local issues, leadership and economy. These views were expressed in a CPNE Standing Committee meeting jointly headed by Irshad Ahmed Arif and Dr Hafiz Sanaullah Khan. The standing committee members from across the country participated in the meeting through video link. The resolution passed in the meeting stated that local newspapers were like learning institutions for journalists, which if faced economic cuts, would also result in the reduction of trained human resource for responsible and impartial journalism.
