Three killed in Dijkot crossfires

Bilal, Pervez and Waris died after rival groups clashed near Malkhanwala, Jaranwala Road

Three people were killed in separate crossfires in Dijkot on Sunday.

Police said armed rival groups exchanged fire over an old enmity and a water dispute in which five other people including a passerby sustained bullet injuries. The injured victims were shifted to a hospital after medical aid.

As per details available with The Express Tribune, there was an old enmity between Bilal 26, the son of Khurshid and Pervez, 20, the son of Sobe Khan in Chak No 225RB, Malkhanwala area.

Due to the rivalry between the two youth and their accomplices, there was an exchange of fire between both the parties. As a result of the incident, Bilal, Pervez and Musaddiq Ali, 21, sustained bullet injuries and were taken to Civil Hospital.

Later, Bilal and Pervez succumbed to their injuries.

On receiving information, police reached the spot and took the bodies of the two deceased into their custody.

The bodies were later handed over to their heirs after postmortem. Police registered separate cases and started raids to arrest the accused.

Separately, there was an exchange of fire between Mian Naveed, son of Zafaruddin and a resident of Gutwala and Muhammad Anwar, a resident of Chak No 206RB, over a water supply dispute near Jaranwala Road.

As a result of the incident, Waris, son of Abdul Majid, died on the spot while Abdul Wahid, son of Abdul Majid, Sardar, son of Sara and a resident of Layyah, Asghar, son of Rabnawaz and a resident of Layyah, Raza, son of Naveed and a resident of Paradise Valley sustained bullet injuries. After medical aid, the injured victims were shifted to Allied Hospital Faisalabad where their condition was stated to be stable.

Police started raids to arrest the accused. This is not the only incident of murder during crossfire in the province.

On October 6, a man was allegedly shot dead by his rivals in Dawood Khel police limits. Sher Khan, a resident of Majeed Nagar, was traveling on a motorcycle when unidentified persons opened fire at him.

On April 18 last year, at least four men were killed over an old enmity in Ferozewala, Lahore.
