PM inaugurates upgraded Hasan Abdal Railway Station

The station will now provide better, enhanced facilities for tourists and Sikh pilgrims

Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated the upgraded Hasan Abdal Railway Station, located in Punjab's Attock district.

Tied to the Main Line-1 project, the upgrade is expected to modernise the country’s railway system and accelerate economic activity.

Main Line-1 project will be executed with the cooperation of China and after its completion, the distance between Karachi and Lahore will be covered in seven hours, said the premier while addressing the ceremony.

The prime minister added that the project will create massive job opportunities and will significantly contribute to economic development. He said railway is a facility used for travelling by the masses; but unfortunately, it was not developed by the previous governments.

During the inauguration, the premier was also briefed on the enhanced facilities offered at the railway station. He was told that the railway station will now better facilitate Sikh pilgrims.

PM Imran further added that places of worship for minorities, including Hindus and Sikhs, should be renovated so that people from different religions visit Pakistan.

He said the country is heading in the right direction as all economic indicators are on the positive trajectory.

The upgraded project is also said to help boost tourism in the region.

Among some other recent transportation projects inaugurated by the prime minister was the much-awaited Peshwar BRT system.

Speaking at the ceremony, the premier congratulated the provincial chief minister and his team for completing the project.

“BRT will provide massive relief to the common people, who will be able to afford quality service within fewer charges,” he said, adding that the new transit system will also help reduce traffic in the city.

The BRT is a 27.5 kilometre-long main corridor track with 31 stations, besides seven feeder routes of total 62 kilometres, with 146 stops to facilitate hundreds of thousands of passengers every day.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Governors of Sindh and Khyber-Pakthunkhwa, federal and provincial ministers, advisers and special assistants, and other senior government officials.

The prime minister also inaugurated the ‘Ehsas Nashonuma’ programme on the same day, August 13, in Bara area of district Khyber.

Ehsaas Nashonuma is the first anti-stunting programme in the country's history. The budget of this year's programme is Rs8.52 billion.
