LAHORE:

After his removal from the information ministry, Fayyazul Hassan Chohan has been appointed as Punjab Minister for Prisons, apparently with a task to tighten the noose around opposition leaders Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz by eradicating VIP culture from jails.

After assuming charge of his new portfolio on Tuesday, Chohan announced that eradication of VIP culture from Punjab jails is his top priority. “I believe in providing the best and equal facilities to all prisoners and will not tolerate any discriminatory behaviour,” he underlined.

He also sought details of the facilities being offered to the Leaders of the Opposition in the centre and the province who are in Kot Lakhpat Jail over corruption charges.

Earlier, in a tweet, Chohan said, “We all believe in Allah Almighty and it is our belief that whatever happens is for the best.”

In another tweet, he claimed that an Indian intelligence official and the opposition Pakistan Democratic Movement, especially Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) are the happiest over his removal as information minister.
